Welcome To Akwador Guest House

Our History

Akwador has been trading as a guest house since shortly after the the owners Joseph & Maria purchased the property in 1977.

When the opportunity arose, and the house was put on the market, Joseph and Maria bought it and Maria would often invite friends to stay and entertain them. Someone jokingly mentioned that she should go into business as a guest house, and the idea of Akwador was born. The original house now no longer exists, it was demolished down to the level of the ground floor, and then rebuilt.

Akwador is therefore a relatively new building which houses the Guest House on the first and second floors. The positioning of the building overlooking the beautiful Marsascala Bay with it's views of St Anna church makes it ideal as a Guest House due to the stunning views which you can see from the above - the photograph was taken from the breakfast terrace.

Over nearly 4 years of being in business, we have modernised further by installing air conditioning following a heat wave in Malta and our first 'poor' reviews - both of which were related to the exessive heat which even our ceiling fans could not conquor! During winter we have invested in far infrared heaters which heat the room, furniture and you (rather than just heat the air which of course rises and takes with it dust particles) which give guests with respiratory problems like asthma a better environment. We are now holders of Certificates of Excellance from Booking.com, Expedia, TripAdvisor and most recently HotelsCombined. We are thankful to our guests for taking time to share their experiences, both good and bad, (we learn how to improve from the negative comments) in making it possible for us to achieve our high rankings. Thank you!

Our Location

In August 2017, Jacob's Brew - a new independant Coffee Bar will open downstairs which will cater for our breakfast requirements. Until then, the Akwador is supplying a cut down 'light' breakfast of tea, coffee, cereals and toast to our guests for a reduced price of €2.50 per person until they open. Following which we will only provide limited self catering facilities while the Cafe provides hot and cold options. Across the road from us is an excellent Burger bar takeaway and Steakhouse restaurant. Quite close by are various other take away outlets (Pizza, Burgers, and Chinese), Mini Market grocery stores, Ice Cream parlours and bars.

A bus stop 'Vajrita' is situated just at the top of the road from Akwador Guest House that has routes to Marsaxlokk (No. 119 and 135) and the bus terminus (5 minute walk away) has three buses (No. 91, 92 and 93) to Valletta. Just 3 minutes walk away is the popular bathing area in the bay, and 15 minutes walk to St Thomas beach - a quaint local sandy beach with shallow waters where you can hire a sun lounger and umbrella, sip on an ice cold Cisk beer and enjoy the Maltese sun.

Your hosts, Larisa and Neil can arrange various tours and excusions around Malta, and to Gozo and Comino on your behalf - or you can book them on-line (See 'Tours'). We are also able to offer airport transfers and assist in your hire of a car to drive around the island. Remember, Malta is a small island, so no place is too far away. As travellers ourselves, we know that good local information can be invaluable to make your stay easier and more memorable. On our 'Where to visit' page you can find various suggestions of places to visit along with the SatNav co-ordinates, distance and how long it will take you to get there. If you want to learn more about the town of Marsascala itself, go check out the 'Marsascala' page.

Ask about our local excursions to St Peters Pool or Island Bay swimming holes where we will take you and return you at an agreed time by car. Included in the price is loan of a sun umbrella, 2 chairs, 2 beach towels and a 2 litre bottle of water for only €10 for two people!

The Vittoriosa Market is open every Tuesday and is one of the most diverse and largest markets in Malta. For only €3.00 per person (minimum two people), we will drop you off outside the market stalls. When you have finished with the market you can then explore the 3 cities, take the bus to Valletta or just return to Marsascala.

We hope you will book with us and enjoy good, clean affordable accommodation.
